Kathryn Eileen Karcher
Kathryn Karcher practices solely appellate law in federal courts and in California and Washington state courts. She has been lead counsel in over 100 civil appeals and writ proceedings. Ms. Karcher is a member of the California Academy of Appellate Lawyers and is certified as an appellate specialist by the California Board of Legal Specialization. She has been selected for inclusion in The Best Lawyers in America and SuperLawyers and has been selected as one of the SuperLawyers Top 25 Women Lawyers in San Diego County.
Ms. Karcher's professional activities include serving as Chair of the State Bar of California Appellate Courts Committee and the San Diego County Bar Association’s Appellate Court Committee. She has served on the Appellate Law Advisory Commission to the California Board of Legal Specialization on which she assisted with writing the appellate law specialist exam and reviewing applications for certification as an appellate specialist. Ms. Karcher has also served as a member of the Board of Directors of the California Supreme Court Historical Society and has been an organizational member of the Gerald Brown Appellate Inn of Court.
From 1995 through 2007 Ms. Karcher was a partner at DLA Piper and its predecessor firm, Gray Cary Ware & Freidenrich. She chaired the Appellate Practice Group at DLA Piper from 2005 through 2007. She has been a speaker on numerous topics in appellate law and was a Chapter Editor of the California Appellate Practice Handbook (6th and 7th Editions). In 2008 Ms. Karcher opened a private practice in appellate law. She maintains offices in San Diego, California, and Bainbridge Island, Washington.
